Nanaki Ji, first Gursikh in the town’s memory

This page is the life and seva record of Satikarayog Bebe Nanaki Ji, elder sister of Jagat Guru Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, remembered as the first Gursikh. With her call, and with Bhai Jai Ram Ji’s service, the Sultanpur Lodhi stream opens.

It is not the shrine page. No building hours and no map pin are given here. For the hall, the Trust, and the 1970 cornerstone, use the dedicated shrine page. Where a title is honour, this page says it is honour.

Bebe Nanaki Ji, remembered at Sultanpur Lodhi

Who Bebe Nanaki Ji is

Satikarayog Bebe Ji was the elder sister of Jagat Guru Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Sikh tradition regards her as the first Gursikh, a sister’s love that recognised the Guru early. The kinship is the confirmed layer. The title is tradition and honour, not a modern registry.

In Sikh memory Bebe Ji is among the first to honour Guru Sahib’s light within the home: seva, call, and trust. Say that with respect. Do not turn the title into a certificate this website can issue.

The call, with Bhai Jai Ram Ji

Satikarayog Bebe Ji and Satikarayog Bhai Jai Ram Ji invited Guru Sahib to Sultanpur Lodhi. Bhai Jai Ram Ji served under Nawab Daulat Khan Lodhi. From that setting the modikhana stream opens. This call is the first stage on the life path.

That call is why the town chapter begins at all. Read the life path for the stages that follow. This page does not retell every later sakhi. It keeps the doorway: sister, husband, Nawab’s service, and the invitation.

Home and seva

Tradition remembers Bebe Ji’s home as support for family and sangat. The householder years, linked with the residence shrine, open in this same town. Some traditions also link langar care with her. Keep that soft, and read the residence page before you harden it.

Remembrance of Bebe Ji is not only a historical name. It is a path of seva: a sister’s love, a call for the Guru, and the town’s stream that opens from that trust. That path is love, call, and trust held together.

Satsang that still carries the name

Women’s satsang and Trust seva still carry that honour forward. Detail of the hall, the chairperson, and the cornerstone belongs on the shrine page, not here. This life page only says the seva continues, and it points sideways for the building.

Do not invent a programme or a meeting hour for that seva. The Nanaki seva named here is love, call, and trust. Detail of the hall stays on the shrine page, and this life page does not set a visiting hour.

This page and the shrine page

Here: Bebe Ji’s life remembrance, the call, and seva, without building hours or map pins. There: the public shrine, cornerstone 13 November 1970, under the Bebe Nanaki Istri Satsang Charitable Trust. The historic house in Mohalla Chhimbian is described as privately held. Do not invent tours.

The two URLs stay distinct on purpose. If a sentence needs a dome, a palaki, or a pin, it belongs on the shrine page. If it needs the sister’s call, it belongs here. The Nanaki life record refuses to blur them.

Questions people ask

Who was she? Elder sister of Jagat Guru Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, remembered as the first Gursikh. Why that title? Because Sikh memory honours her as one who saw the Guru’s light at home. It is traditional honour.

How does she link to the town? At her call with Bhai Jai Ram Ji, Guru Sahib came here, and the stay and the modikhana stream begin. Where are the stages? On the life path, whose first stage is Bebe Ji’s call. The Nanaki question to refuse is any tour of the private house.

How to speak of her

Use the honour Satikarayog. Do not drop the sister into a footnote of the brother’s stay. The town stream opens because she called, and because Bhai Jai Ram Ji served where the Nawab’s store could receive Guru Sahib.

Keep dates that this page does not hold, including any wedding date, off this record. The life page is a doorway, not a full janam chronology. The Nanaki honour is early recognition, seva, and the invitation.

The hall is on the Trust shrine. Stage one of the path is on the life path. The stay and Nawab Daulat Khan are on the history page. The eight shrines are on the shrine list.

For darshan after you have read the life, use the shrine page and the travel guide, which carries station code SQR. This Nanaki page still will not invent a train number or a visiting hour.

Named lead

The life note leans on the Encyclopaedia of Sikhism, read beside the shrine page. First Gursikh remains traditional honour. The private house remains private.
