About Gurudwara Sri Ber Sahib

Gurudwara Sri Ber Sahib is the most prominent and revered Gurudwara in Sultanpur Lodhi and one of the most important Sikh heritage sites in Punjab. It is built at the sacred spot where, according to Sikh tradition, Sahib Shri Guru Nanak Ji would come daily to offer prayers and meditate before beginning his service at the Modikhana.

The name ‘Ber Sahib’ comes from the ancient jujube (Ber) tree that stands at the site. According to tradition, this tree was present during the time of Guru Sahib Ji himself and has been associated with the site of his devotion. The Ber tree is treated with great reverence by pilgrims and visitors to this day.

Significance & Spiritual Importance

For Sikh pilgrims, Gurudwara Sri Ber Sahib holds immense spiritual significance as one of the primary sites connected to the early life and spiritual development of Sahib Shri Guru Nanak Ji. Being a place where Guru Sahib Ji himself is traditionally believed to have prayed, it is regarded as ground of deep spiritual energy and blessing.

The Gurudwara also holds historical importance for the broader Sikh community worldwide. It is one of several Gurudwaras in Sultanpur Lodhi that together form a spiritual circuit, and visiting Gurudwara Sri Ber Sahib is considered the centrepiece of any pilgrimage to the city.
